This day in music history.

July 31, 1976, Blue Oyster Cult releases the classic single "Don't Fear The Reaper". The song was from the album "Agents of Fortune" it reached #12 on the Billboard charts.
Don't Fear The Reaper
All our times have come
here but now they're gone
seasons don't fear the reaper
nor do the wind, the sun or the rain.
we can be like they are
come on baby...Don't fear the reaper
baby take my hand...Don't fear the reaper
We'll be able to fly...Don't fear the reaper
baby I'm your man...

Valentine is done
here but now they're gone
Romeo and Juliet
are together in eternity...
(Romeo and Juliet )
40,000 men and women everyday...
(like Romeo and Juliet )
40,000 men and women everyday...

(Redefine happiness )
another 40,000 coming everyday...

(We can be like they are)
come on baby...Don't fear the reaper
baby take my hand...Don't fear the reaper
we'll be able to fly...Don't fear the reaper
baby I'm your man...
love of two is one
here but now they're gone
came the last night of sadness
and it was clear she couldn't go on
then the door was open and the wind appeared
the candles blew then disappeared
the curtains flew then he appeared...Saying don't be afraid
come on baby...And she had no fear
and she ran to him...Then they started to fly
they looked backward and said goodbye...
she had become like they are
she had taken his hand...
she had become like they are
come on baby...Don't fear the reaper...

July 26, 1972, Gilbert O'Sullivan has his only No. 1 hit with the song "Alone Again (Naturally)".
Alone Again Naturally by Gilbert O'Sullivan
In a little while from now
If I’m not feeling any less sour
I promise myself to treat myself
And visit a nearby tower
And climbing to the top
will throw myself off
In an effort to make it clear to who ever
what it’s like when you’re shattered
Left standing in the lurch at a church
Where people saying:
"My God, that’s tough
She's stood him up"
No point in us remaining
We may as well go home
As I did on my own
Alone again, naturally
To think that only yesterday
I was cheerful, bright and gay
Looking forward to well wouldn’t do
The role I was about to play
But as if to knock me down
Reality came around
And without so much, as a mere touch
Cut me into little pieces
Leaving me to doubt
Talk about God and His mercy
Or if He really does exist
Why did He desert me
in my hour of need
I truly am indeed
Alone again, naturally
It seems to me that there are more hearts
broken in the world that can’t be mended
Left unattended
What do we do? What do we do?
Alone again, naturally
Now looking back over the years
And whatever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears
And at sixty-five years old
My mother, God rest her soul,
Couldn’t understand why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken
Leaving her to start with a heart so badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever spoken
And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
Alone again, naturally
Alone again, naturally

July 25, 1966, Eric Clapton sits in with the Beatles and plays lead guitar for George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". The song would appear on the album "The Beatles" which is better known as "The White Album". A clue to the infamous Paul is dead conspiracy is in the end of the song when Harrison starts crying out "Paul, oh Paul, oh Paul." George said "inspiration for the song arrived from reading the I Ching, it seemed to me to be based on the Eastern concept that everything is relative to everything else, as opposed to the Western view that things are merely coincidental."
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping
Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know why nobody told you how to unfold your love
I don't know how someone controlled you they bought and sold you
I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know how you were diverted you were perverted too
I don't know how you were inverted no one alerted you
I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at you all
Still my guitar gently weeps...

July 22, 1977, Tony Orlando announces his departure from Dawn during a concert in Cohasset, Mass. The announcement causes a riot during which a dozen people are killed. Over the next few days, as word spreads, there are many suicides and by the end of the week the earths axis tilts, causing global warming.
Knock Three Times by Tony Orlando and Dawn
Hey girl what ya doin' down there
Dancin' alone every night while I live right above you
I can hear your music playin
'I can feel your body swayin'
One floor below me you don't even know me
I love you
Oh my darling
Knock three times on the ceiling if you want me
Twice on the pipe if the answer is no
Oh my sweetness
Means you'll meet me in the hallway
Twice on the pipe means you ain't gonna show
If you look out your window tonight
Pull in the string with the note that's attached to my heart
Read how many times I saw you
How in my silence I adored you
Only in my dreams did that wall between us come apart
Oh my darling
Knock three times on the ceiling if you want me
Twice on the pipe if the answer is no
Oh my sweetness
Means you'll meet me in the hallway
Twice on the pipe means you ain't gonna show...

July 19, 1995, Elvis Presley's former doctor Dr. George Nichopoulous, loses his medical license for being "too liberal" in prescribing addictive drugs.
Change Of Habit by Elvis
If you're in old habits
Set in your old ways
Changes are a-comin'
For these are changing days
And if your head is in the sand
While things are goin' on
What you need, what you need,
What you need is a change of habit
Now if you're in the habit
To let your temper fly
When you talk with people
Who don't see eye to eye
And if you don't believe it
There's a newer world ahead
What you need, what you need,
What you need is a change of habit
A change of habit, a change of outlook
A change of heart, you'll be all right
The halls of darkness
Have doors that open
It's never too late
To see the light
So if you're in the habit
Of putting people down
Just because they're different
From the wrong side of town
Well, don't count on any medals son
They're pinning none on you
What you need, what you need,
What you need is a change of habit

July 17, 1959, Billie Holiday dies at the age of 44. Just a few days before her death, while she lay on her death bed, she was arrested for possession of heroin. Billie hid her drugs in a Kleenex box in her hospital room, a nurse discovered it and turned her in. In the final years of her life Billie had been swindled out of all her money, when she died she had $750 taped to her leg. She posthumously received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Three of her recordings receive Grammy Hall of Fame Awards: "Strange Fruit" , "God Bless the Child" and "Lover Man (Oh, Where Can You Be?)" . The 1972 film "Lady Sings the Blues" is based on her life. Billie once said "A kiss that is never tasted, is forever and ever wasted."
Strange Fruit
Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.
Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.
Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

July 16, 1996, Michael Jackson is paid 20 million dollars for one performance. It is for a private party held by the Sultan of Brunei to celebrate his birthday. The sultan is one of the richest men in the world and later that same year Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston played at his daughters wedding reception.
Money by Michael Jackson
Money
Money
Lie for it
Spy for it
Kill for it
Die for it
So you call it trust
But I say it's just
In the devil's game
Of greed and lust
They don't care
They'd do me for the money
They don't care
They use me for the money
So you go to church
Read the holy word
In the scheme of life
It's all absurd
They don't care
They'd kill for the money
Do or dare
The thrill for the money
You're saluting the flag
Your country trusts you
Now you're wearing a badge
You're called the "Just Few"
And you're fighting the wars
A soldier must do
I'll never betray or deceive you my friend but...
If you show me the cash
Then I will take it
If you tell me to cry
Then I will fake it
If you give me a hand
Then I will shake it
You do anything for money...
AnythingAnythingAnything for money
Would lie for you
Would die for you
Even sell my soul to the devil
AnythingAnythingAnything for money
Would lie for you

Would die for you
Even sell my soul to the devil
Insurance?
Where do your loyalties lie?
Is that your alibi?
I don't think so
You don't care
You'd do her for the money
Say it's fair
You sue her for the money
Want your pot of gold
Need the Midas touch
Bet you sell your soul
Cuz your God is such
You don't care
You kill for the money
Do or dare
The thrill for the money
Are you infected with the same disease of lust, gluttony and greed?
Then watch the ones
With the biggest smiles
The idle jabbers...Cuz they're the backstabbers
If you know it's a lie
Then you will swear it
If you give it with guilt
Then you will bear it
If it's taking a chance
Then you will dare it
You do anything for money...
AnythingAnythingAnything for money
Would lie for you
Would die for you
Even sell my soul to the devil
AnythingAnythingAnything for money...
You say you wouldn't do it
For all the money in the world
I don't think so
If you show me the man
Then I will sell him
If you ask me to lie
Then I will tell him
If you're stealing with God
Then you will hell him
You do anything for money
AnythingAnythingAnything for money...

July 14, 1789, French Revolution begins with the fall of Bastille.
Bastille Days by RUSH
Theres no bread, let them eat cake
Theres no end to what they'll take
Flaunt the fruits of noble birth
Wash the salt into the earth
But they're marching to bastille day
la guillotine will claim
Her bloody prize
free the dungeons of the innocent
the king
Will kneel,
and let his kingdom rise
Blood
stained velvet, dirty lace
Naked fear on every face
See them bow their heads to die
As we would bow as they rode by
And were marching to bastille day
la guillotine will claim
Her bloody prize
sing, o choirs of cacophony
the king has
Kneeled, to let his kingdom rise
Lessons taught but never learned
All around us anger burns
Guide the future by the past
Long ago the mould was cast
For they marched up to bastille day
la guillotine -- claimed
Her bloody prize
hear the echoes of the centuries
power isn't
All that money buys

Mama Told Me (Not To Come)

Want some whiskey in your water
Sugar in your tea
What's all these crazy questions they askin' me
This is the craziest party there could ever be
Don't turn on the lights, 'cause I don't want to see
Mama told me not to come
Mama told me not to come
That ain't the way to have fun, no
Open up the window
Let some air into this room
I think I'm almost chokin'
From the smell of stale perfume
And that cigarette you're smoking'
Bout scared me half to death
Open up the window, sucker
Let me catch my breath
Mama told me not to ...
The radio is blastin'
Someone's knocking at the door
I'm lookin' at my girlfriend
She's passed out on the floor
I seen so many things
I ain't never seen before
Don't know what it is
I don't wanna see no more
Mama told me, mama told me, mama told me
Told me, told me
That ain't no way to have fun,
whoah, yeah yeah
Mama told me not to come...

July 12, 1979, Radio talk show hosts Steve Dahl and Garry Meier conduct a wacky DJ stunt by blowing up a pile of disco records between a baseball double header at Chicago's Comiskey Park. Things get out of hand when people in the stands start throwing disco records onto the field, the tip of Garry Meir's nose was cut off by a Rod Stewert album and several people are decapitated forcing the cancellation of the second game. They called the stunt "Disco Demolition" and it signaled the end of the disco craze.
Night Fever by The Bee Gees
Listen to the ground:there is movement all around.
There is something goin' down
and I can feel it.
On the waves of the air,
there is dancin' out there.
If it's somethin' we can share,
we can steal it.
And that sweet city woman,
she moves through the light,
controlling my mind and my soul.
When you reach out for me
yeah, and the feelin' is bright,
then I get night fever, night fever.
We know how to do it.
Gimme that night fever, night fever.
We know how to show it.
Here I am,
prayin' for this moment to last,
livin' on the music so fine,
borne on the wind,
makin' it mine.
Night fever, night fever.
We know how to do it.
Gimme that night fever, night fever.
We know how to show it.
In the heat of our love,
don't need no help for us to make it.
Gimme just enough to take us to the mornin'.
I got fire in my mind.
I got higher in my walkin'.
And I'm glowin' in the dark;
I give you warnin'.
And that sweet city woman,
she moves through the light,
controlling my mind and my soul.

July 10, 1967, Bobbie Gentry records "Ode to Billie Joe" at a Hollywood studio. Gentry went on to win three Grammy Awards that year, including "Best Vocal Performance by a Female", and "Best New Artist." Ode to Billie Joe was originally over seven minutes long, the song was reduced to four minutes and seven seconds, and violins and cellos were added. The song topped the US charts for four weeks, reaching number 13 in the UK, and selling 3 million copies.
Ode To Billie Joe by Bobbie Gentry
It was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day
I was out choppin' cotton and my brother was balin' hay
And at dinner time we stopped and walked back to the house to eat
And Mama hollered out the back door "y'all remember to wipe your feet"
And then she said "I got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge"
"Today Billy Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"
And Papa said to Mama as he passed around the blackeyed peas
"Well, Billy Joe never had a lick of sense, pass the biscuits, please"
"There's five more acres in the lower forty I've got to plow"
And Mama said it was shame about Billy Joe, anyhow
Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge
And now Billy Joe MacAllister's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge
And Brother said he recollected when he and Tom and Billie Joe
Put a frog down my back at the Carroll County picture show
And wasn't I talkin' to him after church last Sunday night?
"I'll have another piece of apple pie, you know it don't seem right"
"I saw him at the sawmill yesterday on Choctaw Ridge"
"And now you tell me Billie Joe's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"
And Mama said to me "Child, what's happened to your appetite?"
"I've been cookin' all morning and you haven't touched a single bite"
"That nice young preacher, Brother Taylor, dropped by today"
"Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday, oh, by the way"
"He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge"
"And she and Billy Joe was throwing somethin' off the Tallahatchie Bridge"
A year has come 'n' gone since we heard the news 'bout Billy Joe
And Brother married Becky Thompson, they bought a store in Tupelo
There was a virus going 'round, Papa caught it and he died last Spring
And now Mama doesn't seem to wanna do much of anything
And me, I spend a lot of time pickin' flowers up on Choctaw Ridge
And drop them into the muddy water off the Tallahatchie Bridge

Paperback writer by The Beatles
Paper back writer
Dear Sir or Madam, will you read my book?
It took me years to write, will you take a look?
It's based on a novel by a man named Lear
And I need a job, so I want to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer.
It's the dirty story of a dirty man
And his cleaning wife just doesn't understand.
His son is working for the Daily Mail,
It's a steady job but he wants to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer.
Paperback writer
It's a thousand pages, give or take a few,
I'll be writing more in a week or two.
I can make it longer if you like the style,
I can change it round but I want to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer.
If you really like it you can have the rights,
It could make a million for you overnight.
If you must return it, you can send it here
But I need a break and I want to be a paperback writer,

Can I Play With Madness? by Iron Maiden
Can I play with madness?
Give me the sense to wonder
To wonder if I'm free
Give me a sense of wonder
To know I can be me
Give me the strength to hold my head up
Spit back in their face
Don't need no key to unlock this door
Gonna break down the walls
Break out of this bad place
Said you're too blind to see
I screamed aloud to the old man
I said don't lie, don't say you don't know
I say you'll pay for this mischief
In this world or the next
Oh and then he fixed me with a freezing glance
And the hellfires raged in his eyes
He said you wanna know the truth son?
Lord, I'll tell you the truth
Your soul's gonna burn in a lake of fire
Can I play with madness?
The prophet stared at his crystal ball
Can I play with madness?
There's no vision there at all
Can I play with madness?
The prophet looked at me and laughed at me (ha ha)
He said: Can I play with madness?
He said you're blind, too blind to see
Listen to me, said the prophet
Can I play with madness?

gon' make you sweat, gon' make you groove
Ah-ah, child, the way you shake that thing
gon' make you burn, gon' make you sting
Hey, hey, baby, when you walk that way
watch your honey drip, can't keep away
Oh, yeah, oh, yeah, ah, ah, ah

Oh, yeah, oh, yeah, ah, ah, ah
I gotta roll, can't stand still
Got a flamin' heart, can't get my fill
Eyes that shine burnin' red
Dreams of you all through my head
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ahh
Hey, baby, whoa, baby, pretty baby
Darlin', can't ya do me now
Hey, baby, oh, baby, pretty baby
Move the way you're movin', now
Didn't take too long 'fore I found out
what people mean by "down and out"
Spent my money, took my car
Started tellin' her friends she gonna be a star
I don't know, but I been told
a big-legged woman ain't got no soul
Oh, yeah, oh, yeah, ah, ah, ah
Oh, yeah, oh, yeah, ah, ah, ah yeah
All I ask for, all I pray
Steady-rollin' woman gonna come my way
Need a woman gon' hold my hand
won't tell me no lies, make me a happy man
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ahh
Ooh, ooh-wah, yeah, oh, yeah, gotta move
Yeah-yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah
Gotta move you, now, babe, babe, move, you move, yeah
Push, push, babe, push, babe, push, babe
Push it, now, push, baby, push, baby, push, move, move
Ooh, yeah, ooh, move
Well-done
I'm gonna get ya groovin', now, gonna get ya groovin', now

This day in music history.

July 6, 1973, Queen released their debut single "Keep Yourself Alive".
Keep Yourself Alive
I was told a million times
Of all the troubles in my way
Tried to grow a little wiser
Little better every day
But if I crossed a million rivers
And I rode a million miles
Then I'd still be where I started
Bread and butter for a smile
Well I sold a million mirrors
In a shop in Alley Way
But I never saw my face
In any window any day
Well they say your folks are telling you
To be a superstar
But I tell you just be satisfied
To stay right where you are
Keep yourself alive
keep yourself alive
It'll take you all your time and a money
Honey you'll survive
Well I've loved a million women
In a belladonic haze
And I ate a million dinners
Brought to me on silver trays
Give me verythingng I need
To feed my body and my soul
And I'll grow a little bigger
Maybe that can be my goal
I was told a million times
Of all the people in my way
How I had to keep on trying
And get better every day
But if I crossed a million rivers
And I rode a million miles
Then I'd still be where I started
Same as when I started
Keep yourself alive
keep yourself alive
It'll take you all your time and a money
Honey you'll survive
Keep yourself alive
Keep yourself alive
It'll take you all your time and a money
To keep me satisfied
Do you think you're better every day?
No I think I'm two steps nearer to my grave
Keep yourself alive
Keep yourself alive
You take your time and take more money
Keep yourself alive
Keep yourself alive
Keep yourself alive
All you people
keep yourself alive...

July 5, 1998, Yanni concludes his world tour with a sold-out performance at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario. After only three songs the concert is brought to an end and a riot begins. The incident starts when Yanni urinates in a cup and throws it at the audience. An irate fan attacks Yanni on stage and Yanni beats the man bloody with his microphone stand. Yanni is arrested by local police and charged with impersonating a musician.
I don't Give A Shit by Yanni
I don't care about the job,
I don't care about the things I do
I don't care what I say and what you think of me,
who cares
fuck you
I don't give a shit...
about you
I don't care about a thing, I'm gonna do
what I gotta do
I don't care about no one,
I'm looking out for number one,
so screw
And I don't give a shit... about you
I don't give a shit... about you
I don't care about a thing, I'm gonna do
what I gotta do
I don't care about no one,
I'm looking out for number one,
fuck you
I don't give a shit... about you

July 4, 2000, Some asshole fell 80 feet to his death during a Metallica concert at Raven Stadium, Baltimore. The man then spent eternity burning in hell.
Devils Dance by Metallica
Devil's Dance
Yeah, I feel you too
Feel, those things you do
In your eyes I see a fire that burns
To free the you
That's wanting through
Deep inside you know,
The seeds I plant will grow
One day you will see
And dare to come down to me
Yeah c'mon, c'mon now take the chance
That's right
Lets dance
Snake, I am the snake
Tempting, that bite you take
Let me make your mind
leave yourself behind
Be not afraid
I've got what you need
hunger I will feed
One day you will see
And dare to come down to me
Yeah c'mon, c'mon now take the chance
That's right
Lets dance
Yeah Come dancin'
One day you will see
And dare to come down to me
Yeah c'mon, c'mon now take the chance
That's right
Lets dance
Yeah, I feel you too
Feel, those things you do
In your eyes I see a fire that burns
To free the you
That's running through
Deep inside you know
seeds I plant will grow
One day you will see
And dare to come down to me
Yeah c'mon, c'mon now take the chance
That's right
Let's dance!
It's nice to see you here

This day in music history.

July 3, 1969, Brian Jones (age 27) is found dead in his swimming pool at his Cotchford Farm, Hartfield, England home. Rumors of suicide and murder begin. The coroner cites high levels of alcohol and barbituates in his blood and attributes the drowning to "misadventure" and noted that Brians liver and heart were heavily enlarged. His body was found at the bottom of the pool by his Swedish girlfriend Anna Wohlin. Jones was buried 12 feet deep (to stop grave robbers) in a silver and bronze casket sent for his funeral by friend Bob Dylan. Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman were the only Rolling Stones that went to the funeral. Reportedly on the same day as he heard the news of Brian's drowning, Pete Townshend wrote the song, "A Normal Day For Brian, A Man Who Died Every Day" the lyrics read
"I used to play my guitar as a kid
wishing that I could be like him
But today I changed my mind
I decided that I don't want to die
But it was a normal day for Brian
Rock and Roll's that way
It was a normal day for Brian
A man who died every day"

July 2, 1988, Tracy Chapman started a three-week run at number one on the UK album chart with her self-titled debut LP, it also made it to number one in the USA. The song "Fast Car" became a smash hit. The album went multi platinum and won four Grammy Awards.
Fast Car by Tracy Chapman
You got a fast car I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal Maybe together we can get somewhere
Anyplace is better Starting from zero got nothing to lose
Maybe we'll make something But me myself I got nothing to prove
You got a fast car And I got a plan to get us out of here
I been working at the convenience store Managed to save just a little bit of money
We won't have to drive too far Just 'cross the border and into the city
You and I can both get jobs And finally see what it means to be living
You see my old man's got a problem He live with the bottle
that's the way it is
He says his body's too old for working
I say his body's too young to look like his
My mama went off and left him She wanted more from life than he could give
I said somebody's got to take care of him
So I quit school and that's what I did
You got a fast car But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We got make a decision We leave tonight or live and die this way
I remember we were driving driving in your car
The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
And I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car And we go cruising to entertain ourselves
You still ain't got a job And I work in a market as a checkout girl
I know things will get better You'll find work and I'll get promoted
We'll move out of the shelter Buy a big house and live in the suburbs
You got a fast car And I got a job that pays all our bills
You stay out drinking late at the bar See more of your friends than you do of your kids
I'd always hoped for better Thought maybe together
you and me would find it I got no plans I ain't going nowhere
So take your fast car and keep on driving You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so you can fly away
You gotta make a decision You leave tonight or live and die this way

July 1, 1975, Captain & Tennille get their first gold record with "Love Will Keep Us Together". The album will eventually sell 2 1/2 million copies and win a Grammy for Record of the Year. Proving once again that most people are retarded.
Love Will Keep Us Together
Love,
love will keep us together
Think of me babe whenever
Some sweet talking girl comes along
singing her song
Don't mess around, You gotta be strong
Just Stop
'cause I really love You
Stop
I'll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love
keep us together
You,
You belong to me now
Ain't gonna set you free now
When those girls start hanging around
talking me down
Hear with your heart and
you won't hear a sound
Just Stop
'cause I really love you
Stop
I'll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love
keep us together, what ever.
Young and beautiful
Someday your looks will be gone
When the others turn you off
Who'll be turning you on
I will, I will, I will,
I will Be there to share forever
Love will keep us together
Said it before and I'll say it again
while others pretend
I'll need you now and I'll need you then
Stop 'cause I really love Ya
Stop I'll be thinking of Ya
Look in my heart and let love keep us together
