This day in music history.

April 30, 1983, Muddy Waters died in his sleep at the age of 68. Born McKinley Morganfield in Issaquene County, Mississippi in 1915. His mother gave him the nickname Muddy because of his fondness for playing in the mud. Muddy was one of the greatest blues musicians of all time. He recorded over 40 albums which included such classic songs as "I Just Want To Make Love To You", "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man", "Got My Mojo Working", "Rollin And Tumblin", "Mannish Boy" and "You Shook Me". His songs were copied by almost every rock band of the 60s and 70s including Eric Clapton, Johnny Winter, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. The Rolling Stones named themselves after Waters 1950 song, "Rollin' Stone". Muddy once said "If you got something you don't want other people to know, keep it in your pocket."
Rollin' Stone by Muddy Waters
Well, I wish I was a catfish,
Swimmin in a oh, deep, blue sea.
I would have all you good lookin women,
Fishin, fishin after me.
Sure 'nough, a-after me.
Sure 'nough, a-after me.
Oh 'nough, oh 'nough, sure 'nough.
I went to my baby's house,
And I sit down oh, on her steps.
She said, "Now, come on in now, Muddy."
"You know, my husband just now left."
"Sure 'nough, he just now left."
"Sure 'nough, he just now left."
Sure 'nough, oh well, oh well.
Well, my mother told my father,
Just before hmmm, I was born,
"I got a boy child's comin,"
"He's gonna be, he's gonna be a rollin stone,"
"Sure 'nough, he's a rollin stone,"
"Sure 'nough, he's a rollin stone,"
Oh well he's a, oh well he's a, oh well he's a.
Well, I feel, yes I feel,
Feel that I could lay down oh, time ain't long.
I'm gonna catch the first thing smokin,
Back, back down the road I'm goin.
Back down the road I'm goin.
Back down the road I'm goin.
Sure 'nough back,
sure 'nough back

Lifes A Gas by T-Rex
I could have loved you girl Like a planet
I could have chained your heart To a star
But it really doesn't matter at all
No it really doesn't matter at all
Life's a gas, I hope it's gonna last
I could have built a house On the ocean

I could have placed your love In the sky
I could have turned you Into a priestess
I could have burned Your fate in the sand

Addicted To Love by Robert Palmer
Your lights are on, but you're not home
Your mind is not your own
Your heart sweats, your body shakes
Another kiss is what it takes
You cant sleep, you cant eat
Theres no doubt, youre in deep
Your throat is tight, you cant breathe
Another kiss is all you need
Whoa, you like to think that youre immune to the stuff,
ohYeah
Its closer to the truth to say you cant get enough,
you know youre gonna have to face it, youre addicted to love
You see the signs, but you cant read
Youre runnin at a different speed
You heart beats in double time
Another kiss and youll be mine, a one track mind
You cant be saved
Oblivion is all you crave
If theres some left for you
You dont mind if you do
Whoa, you like to think that youre immune to the stuff,
oh Yeah
Its closer to the truth to say you cant get enough,
you know youreGonna have to face it, youre addicted to love
Might as well face it, youre addicted to love
Your lights are on, but youre not home
Your will is not your own
Youre heart sweats and teeth grind
Another kiss and youll be mine
Whoa, you like to think that youre immune to the stuff,
oh Yeah
Its closer to the truth to say you cant get enough,
you know youre gonna have to face it, youre addicted to love
Might as well face it, youre addicted to love

This day in music history.

April 26, 2007, My daughter was playing my Cd's picking out her favorite songs for her i-pod. I was in the other room listening to the songs of my childhood. All of a sudden I heard a band I haven't thought of in years, Supertramp. I remembered how much the music used to mean to me, how wonderful they were live and how much I have changed over all those years. I walked in and asked her if she liked it she said it sounded old but she liked the positive message and she thought their hair was pretty funny. I told her the story of how Roger Hodgson had left the band at the height of their popularity and I told her I always respected him for that. I don't think she understood but it was nice that she was giving it a chance. So I pulled out some of Rogers solo music and it was then that I got a tear in my eye. I heard a song that meant little to me back when it came out but now in my middle aged rut it all made perfect sense. I'm sure it seams silly to most young people now but it reminded me of what we have lost. They dont write em like that any more... I am very old. lol
Had A Dream (Sleeping With The Enemy) by Roger Hodgson
Had a dream, I was born to be naked in the eye of the storm
and now it's standing right in front of me
what's it going to do to me, who knows
Had a dream, it was time to be taken to the front of the line
well that is not a place you wanna be
sleeping with the enemy, you know.
Had a dream it was war, and they couldn't tell me what it was for
but it was something they could lie about,
something we could die about, you know
Anytime, anyplace when you look that man in the face
Well it is not a face you wanna see, sleeping with the enemy, you know
Mary, can you hear me, can you tell me what it's all supposed to mean
holding out a photograph of all that I have seen
I wish I could hold you, I wish I could hold you
Had a dream, it was time to be a witness at the scene of the crime
Well that is something you can analyze, something you can criticize, who knows
So we wait, hesitate and we're making such a mistake
Oh whatever can the matter be, sleeping with the enemy you know
I don't care what the future brings, give a damn about anything
I'd be fine if they'd only leave me alone
But it's time, gotta take a stance 'cause I won't get a second chance
And I know now I have to make it alone

A scrub is a guy that thinks he's fly
And is also known as a buster
Always talkin' about what he wants
And just sits on his broke ass
So (no)

I don't want to give you mine and
(no)
I don't want to meet you nowhere

I don't want none of your time and

Hangin' out the passenger side
Of his best friend's ride
Tryin' to holla at me
I don't want no scrub
A scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me
Hangin' out the passenger side
Of his best friend's ride
Tryin' to holler at me
There's a scrub checkin' me
But his game is kinda weak
And I know that he cannot approach me
Cuz I'm lookin' like class and he's lookin' like trash
Can't get wit' a dead-beat ass
So (no)

let me give you something to think about
inundate your mind with intentions to turn you out

April 22, 1972, John Lennon's latest single release is banned by almost all radio stations in the USA because of the "offensive language". The song is called "Woman Is the Nigger of the World" and even though it was banned from radio play it sold enough copies to hit number 57 on the charts.
Woman Is The Nigger Of The World by John and Yoko
Woman is the nigger of the world
Yes she is...think about it
Woman is the nigger of the world
Think about it...do something about it
We make her paint her face and dance
If she wont be a slave, we say that she don't love us
If shes real, we say shes trying to be a man
While putting her down, we pretend that shes above us
Woman is the nigger of the world...yes she is
If you don't believe me, take a look at the one you're with
Woman is the slave of the slaves
Ah, yeah...better scream about it
We make her bear and raise our children
And then we leave her flat for being a fat old mother hen
We tell her home is the only place she should be
Then we complain that shes too unworldly to be our friend
Woman is the nigger of the world...yes she is
If you don't believe me, take a look at the one you're with
Woman is the slave to the slaves
Yeah...alright...hit it!
We insult her every day on TV
And wonder why she has no guts or confidence
When shes young we kill her will to be free
While telling her not to be so smart
we put her down for being so dumb
Woman is the nigger of the world
Yes she is...
if you don't believe me, take a look at the one you're with
Woman is the slave to the slaves
Yes she is...
if you believe me, you better scream about it
We make her paint her face and dance
We make her paint her face and dance...

This day in music history.

April 19, 2002, The body of Layne Staley (singer from the band Alice In Chains) is found by his mother. Staley had been missing for two weeks but he was found at his Seattle apartment. Layne had suffered from a heroin addiction for many years, his body was found on the couch surrounded by drug paraphernalia. The medical examiner's office eventually concluded that he had died from an overdose of cocaine and heroin and that he had died on April 5th, the anniversary of his friend Kurt Cobain's death. During an interview Staley once said "Drugs are not the way to the light. They won't lead to a fairy-tale life, they lead to suffering."
Angry Chair by Alice In Chains
Sitting on an angry chair
Angry walls that steal the air
Stomach hurts and I don't care
What do I see across the way
See myself molded in clay
Stares at me, yeah I'm afraid
Changing the shape of his face
Candles red I have a pair
Shadows dancing everywhere
Burning on the angry chair
Little boy made a mistake
Pink cloud has now turned to gray
All that I want is to play
Get on your knees, time to pray,
boy
I don't mind, yeah
I don't mind,
i-i-i
I don't mind, yeah,
I don't mind,
i-i-i
Lost my mind, yeah
But I don't mind,
i-i-i
Cant find it anywhere
I don't mind
Corporate prison, we stay
I'm a dull boy, work all day
So I'm strung out anyway
Loneliness is not a phase
Field of pain is where I graze
Serenity is far away
Saw my reflection and cried
So little hope that I died
Feed me your lies, open wide
Weight of my heart, not the size
Pink cloud has now turned to gray
All that I want is to play
Get on your knees
time to pray

Imagine you imagining that you love me
And starting on a family tree
Imagine starting on a family tree
The mama is you and the papa is me
If your heart goes bumpety-bump
It's love, love, love!
If your throat comes up with a lump
It's love, love, love!
If your knees go knockety-knock
It's love, love, love!
If you're cuckoo like the cuckoo in the clock
It's love, love, love!
Imagine you imagining a cozy flat
Complete with running dog and cat
Imagine having running dog and cat
And we will have welcome all over the mat
If your heart goes bumpety-bump
It's love, love, love!
If your throat comes up with a lump
It's love, love, love!
If your knees go knockety-knock
It's love, love, love!
If you're cuckoo like the cuckoo in the clock
It's love, love, love!
Imagine you imagining a man and wife
We'll go and buy a fork and a knife
Imagine eating with a fork and a knife
How ritzy we'll be for the rest of our life
If your heart goes bumpety-bump
It's love, love, love!
If your throat comes up with a lump
It's love, love, love!
If your knees go knockety-knock
It's love, love, love!
If you're cuckoo like the cuckoo in the clock

April 17, 1971, For the first and only time all four Beatles had solo singles in the UK charts, George Harrison, "My Sweet Lord", John Lennon, "Power To The People", Paul McCartney with "Another Day", and Ringo Starr "It Don't Come Easy."
It Don't Come Easy by Ringo and George
It don't come easy,
You know it don't come easy.
It don't come easy,
You know it don't come easy.
Got to pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues,
And you know it don't come easy.
You don't have to shout or leap about,
You can even play them easy.
Forget about the past and all your sorrows,
The future won't last,
It will soon be over tomorrow.
I don't ask for much, I only want trust,
And you know it don't come easy.
And this love of mine keeps growing all the time,
And you know it just ain't easy.
Open up your heart, let's come together,
Use a little love
And we will make it work out better.
Got to pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues,
And you know it don't come easy.
You don't have to shout or leap about,
You can even play them easy.
Peace, remember peace is how we make it,
Here within your reach
If you're big enough to take it.
I don't ask for much, I only want trust,
And you know it don't come easy.
And this love of mine keeps growing all the time,
And you know it don't come easy.

Blue Days Black Nights
Blue days - black nights
blue tears keep on fallin'
for you dear
now you're gone
blue days
black nights
my heart keeps on calling for you dear
and you alone
Memories of you make me sorry
I gave you reason to doubt me
but now you're gone and I am left here all alone
with blue memories
I think of you
Blue days - black nights
I didn't realize I would miss you
the way I do
and now somehow I know
I will pay
for the times I have made you blue

The suit would be settled by July of 2001 with Napster basically being shut down. The suit also proved that the heavy metal bad boys were pretty much just big pussies.
Metal Militia by Metallica
Thunder and lightning the gods take revenge
Senseless destruction Victims of fury are cowardly now
Running for safety Stabbing the harlot to pay for her sins
Leaving the virgin Suicide running as if it were free
Ripping and tearing
On through the mist and the madness

We are trying to get the message to you
Metal Militia Metal Militia Metal Militia
Chained and shadowed to be left behind

nine and one thousand Metal militia
for your sacrificeiron clad soldiers
Join or be conquered the law of the land
What will befall you The metallization of your inner soul
twisting and turning
On through the mist and the madness

We are trying to get the message to you

We are as one as we all are the same fighting for one cause

Leather and metal are our uniforms protecting what we are
Joining together to take on the world with our heavy metal
Spreading the message to everyone here Come let yourself go
On through the mist and the madness

We are trying to get the message to you

(We're Gonna) Rock Around The Clock by Bill Haley
One, two, three o'clock, four o'clock, rock,
Five, six, seven o'clock, eight o'clock, rock,
Nine, ten, eleven o'clock, twelve o'clock, rock,
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight.
Put your glad rags on and join me, hon,
We'll have some fun when the clock strikes one,
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.
When the clock strikes two, three and four,
If the band slows down we'll yell for more,
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.
When the chimes ring five, six and seven,
We'll be right in seventh heaven.
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.
When it's eight, nine, ten, eleven too,
I'll be goin' strong and so will you.
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.
When the clock strikes twelve, we'll cool off then,
Start a rockin' round the clock again.
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight

Push Comes To Shove by Van Halen
Does it seem cold in here to you?
Whats there to do tonight, anything?
Give me another cigarette
Is there anything left in that bottle?
Yeah
give it here
Some people live apart
They break your heart so damn easy
And then one night in sunny victory
She decides and you agree,
shes leaving
Will you ever be the same?
Will you ever be the same?
Thats when push comes to shove
I believe it was inevitable
Thats when push comes to shove
Could this be the one that got away?
I get the message
Guess I knew it all along
Says youre a stranger
Here in paradise,
you fool
Seems like forty days and forty nights
Since someone used my first name
Including you
Will you ever be the same?
Is this the one that got away?
Now Im ahead of the game
Driving me insane
Its a small change
Ooh, Im just a pushover
Over and over

April 6, 1968, In a news release Pink Floyd announces that Syd Barrett had officially left the group. Also on this day Syd Barrett sat outside their recording studio hoping to be invited in, he wasn't.
Waving My Arms In The Air / I Never Lied To You by Syd Barrett
Waving my arms in the air
love, my love, got no care
no care, no, no, pressing my feet to the ground
stand up right where you stand
call to you and what do you do
laying back in a chair?
she's so high on the air
she's so high on the air
half and half, half and half
all you have to do to call
is hold her her hand, stand a while
and then smile and we'll understand
yes we do - yes, yes we do!
Oh what a girl I've got too!
Oh what a girl I've got too!
with her slinky look she held her tie to her hair
(and I) could see everywhere
no-one in the land, no-one
no-one in the land, no-one
but it rains on Saturday
cats and dogs in the way
stormy day, hey, hey
and you shouldn't try to be
what you can't be
and you shouldn't try to be
what you can't be
call to you and what do you do
There will be shoulders pressing in the hall
and I won't know if you're here at all
there will be wine and drinking in the yard
there won't be anybody very hard
there will be lots of things that we can do
and all and more will be for you
everything I knew I tried with you
but everything to you was never easy
so I went ahead around my world
I saw the things you do
arriving by your side
to see you looking too
but I know this. I know, I never lied to you
it's been just like you're gone
for just one day for so long!
It's been so hard to bear with you not there
but thought I think of you, the things you do
when I'm with you, to be with you,
to be alone...can only think:
"Why I am here? What's meant to be?"

Lets Work Together by Canned Heat
Together we stand, divided we fall
Come on now people, let's get on the ball and work together
Come on, come on, let's work together
Cause together we will stand every, every girl and a man
Before when things go wrong, as they sometimes will

And the road that you travel, it stays all up hill
Let's work together
Come on, come on, let's work together
You know together we will stand, every boy, girl, woman and a man
Oh well now, two or three minutes, two or three hours

What does it matter now, if this time go round
Let's work together
Come on, come on
Let's work together, now people
Cause together we will stand, every boy, every woman and a man
Oh well, make someone happy, make someone smile

Let's all work together and make life worth while
Let's work together
Come on, come on
Let's work together, now now people
Cause together we will we stand, every boy, girl, woman and a man
Because together we will stand, every boy, girl, woman and a man

Well together we will stand, every boy, girl, woman and a man
Yeah...

April 4, 1960, Elvis Presley records "Are You Lonesome Tonight." Elvis did five takes of this song and they ended up using the first half of one and the end of another for the actual release. Elvis always considered this to be one of his favorite songs and he played at almost every concert he ever did.
Are You Lonesome Tonight
Are you lonesome tonight,
Do you miss me tonight?
Are you sorry we drifted apart?
Does your memory stray to a brighter sunny day
When I kissed you and called you sweetheart?
Do the chairs in your parlor seem empty and bare?
Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there?
Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again?
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?
I wonder if you're lonesome tonight
You know someone said that the worlds a stage
And each must play a part.
Fate had me playing in love you as my sweet heart.
Act one was when we met,
I loved you at first glance
You read your line so cleverly and never missed a cue
Then came act two,
you seemed to change and you acted strange
And why Ill never know.
Honey, you lied when you said you loved me
And I had no cause to doubt you.
But Id rather go on hearing your lies
Than go on living without you.
Now the stage is bare and I'm standing there
With emptiness all around
And if you wont come back to me
Then make them bring the curtain down.
Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again?
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?

Abracadabra by Steve Miller
I heat up, I cant cool down
You got me spinnin
round and round
round and round and round it goes
Where it stops nobody knows
Every time you call my name
I heat up like a burnin flame
Burnin flame full of desire
Kiss me baby, let the fire get higher
Abra-abra-cadabra
I want to reach out and grab ya
Abra-abra-cadabra
Abracadabra
You make me hot, you make me sigh
You make me laugh, you make me cry
Keep me burnin for your love
With the touch of a velvet glove
Abra-abra-cadabra
I want to reach out and grab ya
Abra-abra-cadabra
Abracadabra
I feel the magic in your caress
I feel magic when I touch your dress
Silk and satin, leather and lace
Black panties with an angels face
I see magic in your eyes
I hear the magic in your sighs
Just when I think Im gonna get away
I hear those words that you always say
Abra-abra-cadabra
I want to reach out and grab ya
Abra-abra-cadabra
Abracadabra
Every time you call my name
I heat up like a burnin flame
Burnin flame full of desire
Kiss me baby, let the fire get higher
I heat up, I cant cool down
My situation goes round and round

The Chain by Fleetwood Mac
Listen to the wind blow
Watch the sun rise
Run in the shadows
Damn your love
Damn your lies
And if You don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain.
Listen to the wind blow
Down comes the night
Run in the shadows
Damn your love
Damn your lies
Break the silence
Damn the dark
Damn the light
And if You don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain

April 1, 1970, John and Yoko report in a press release that they are having dual sex change operations. They claim that they have entered a London clinic for the operations. The press release is later revealed to be an April fools day joke and in truth they were now deeply involved with the primal therapy sessions.
Working Class Hero by John Lennon
As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
They hurt you at home and they hit you at school

They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years

Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV

And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
There's room at the top they are telling you still

But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
If you want to be a hero well just follow me
