This day in music history.

April 10, 1956, Nat King Cole and his band played a concert at the municipal auditorium in Birmingham, Alabama. During the show four members of the "White Citizens Council" attacked Nat on stage. The White Citizens Council was pissed off that Nat's band was integrated. Although he was hurt, Cole returned to the stage and completed his performance for the audience of 4,000 white people. After the show he vowed never to return to the South, and he didn't.
