This day in music history.

May 8, 1974, Graham Bond committed suicide by throwing himself under a London tube train at Finsbury Park station. It took police two days to identify his body. Graham was a gifted keyboard and alto sax player and had a wonderfully distinctive voice. His band The Graham Bond Organization was a driving force in British R&B and he was the first to use the Mellotron and the Hammond organ. Bond had suffered from drug addiction and depression for most of his adult life and he had been institutionalized just a short time before his death.
