This day in music history.

May 5, 1891, Carnegie Hall has its official oppening night in New York City. The concert that night was conducted by maestro Walter Damrosch and composer Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The hall is named after Andrew Carnegie who had paid for its construction. Pianist Arthur Rubinstein was once asked, "Pardon me sir, but how do I get to Carnegie Hall?" He replied, "Practice, practice, practice."
