October 27, 1980, Former Tyrannosaurus Rex member Steve Took (aged 31) , ate some psilocybin mushrooms and while tripping he choked to death on a cocktail cherry. Born Stephen Ross Porter, he took his stage name from the Lord Of The Rings character Peregrin Took. Steve also played with the The Pink Fairies and recorded with Hawkwind and Syd Barrett.
