This day in music history.

June 2, 1987, Classical guitarist Andres Segovia dies of a heart attack at the age of 94. He received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1986. In the ceremony he is cited as the most brilliant and influential of all classical guitar players.
DLAK note: I saw Segovia live in 1979, it was unbelievable. The show was at the P.A.C. in Milwaukee. The crowd was mink coats and tux's. Of course we wore jeans and t shirts. All the beautiful people were there, from local politicians to pillars of industry. They almost kicked us out because I was dropping balloons off the balcony. When Segovia came out on stage he saw some people weren't seated yet and he turned around and walked back off stage. The ushers started freaking out, one of them told me Segovia had cancelled shows if everyone wasn't seated and silent when he came out. They closed the doors and ran around making everyone sit down and shut up. After about 15 minutes Segovia came back out and did the show. He came out for 3 encores which everyone said was a lot for him. The week after we saw him he played for the president of the U.S live on TV.
