May 7, 1998, Tens of thousands of young fans shut down central Tokyo to traffic in an outpouring of grief for X-Japan guitarist Hideto "Hide" Matsumoto, "Hide" was found dead five days earlier in his apartment by suicide. He was found with a towel around his neck tied to the bathroom door having apparently hung himself. Hide was reportedly drunk at the time. More than 12,000 fans visited the funeral held at the Honganji Temple in Tokyo's Tsukiji destrict. police arranged helicopers, boats and more than 100 officers to the temple. Also employed were 170 private security guards to keep things in order. the line of fans stretched down the street for about a kilometer from the temple gates. Some of the fans felt sick after being crushed by the crowd, and some collapsed due to emotional stress. Two fans follow him in suicide, and two others make an attempt. At the funeral, Toshi and Yoshiki performed "Forever Love".
