This day in music history.

February 27, 1977, Royal Canadian Mounted Police raid Keith Richards Toronto hotel room and seize 22 grams of heroin and 5 grams of cocaine. Richards is arrested, charged with possession of heroin with intent to traffic and possession of cocaine. He is released on $25,000 bail. Trial is set for October, if convicted Richards could get life in prison. In the end the judge agreed to let Keith off with public service, he had to play a benefit concert for a charity. Keith put together a band that included Ron Wood, Stanley Clark and Bobby Keys, they call themselves "The New Barbarians". The boys have so much fun playing the show they decide to take the impromptu band on tour, at one show they back up Led Zeppelin.
DLAK note: I saw this band on this tour, we had third row they were wasted and it was great. The radio commercial they were running suggested that Mick Jagger might show up so everyone was anticipating Mick. When the concert was over and people realized there would be no Jagger the audience rioted and wrecked the place (Milwaukee arena) causing major damage and starting the place on fire as well as beating up some cops. There were many arrests but we got out by walking on the top edge of the seats. Now that's fucking rock and roll! LOL
