This day in music history.

December 22, 1958, "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" , by The Chipmunks tops the charts and stays there for 4 weeks. The Chipmunks were the invention of David Seville (born Ross Bagdasarian). He made the chipmunk voices by speeding up tapes of his own voice. If you slow the song down enough you can hear his real voice. He named the Chipmunks after executives at Liberty Records, Alvin was named for company president Alvin Bennett, Simon for company vice-president Si Waronker, and Theodore for recording engineer Ted Keep.
The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)
Christmas, Christmas time is near
Time for toys and time for cheer
We've been good, but we can't last
Hurry Christmas, hurry fast
Want a plane that loops the loop
Me, I want a hula hoop
We can hardly stand the wait
Please Christmas, don't be late.
