September 17, 1931, The first 33 and a third LP players were launched by RCA Victor at the Savoy Plaza Hotel in New York. It would be another 17 years before RCA rival Columbia would begin mass production of the LP. By that time RCA had released the 45 RPM single which allowed them to re-release their 78 RPM catalog.
