This day in music history.

September 2, 1709, Bartolommeo Cristofori invents the piano. He called it "gravicembalo col piano e forte", which means harpsichord that plays soft and loud. The instrument was invented to control dynamics by touch, which could not be done on the harpsichord. The first song he played was 'Chopsticks'.
