This day in music history.

August 12, 1877, At the age of 30 Thomas Edison gave a sketch of a machine to his mechanic, (John Kreusi) the machine was based on two other inventions, the telegraph and the telephone. Kreusi supposedly had the prototype done within 30 hours. Edison immediately tested the machine by speaking a nursery rhyme into the mouthpiece, "Mary had a little lamb." To his amazement, the machine played his words back to him, Thomas Alva Edison had invented the 'phonograph'. He would publicly unveil his new invention in November and filed for the patent in December. Edison came under fire when it was discovered that when played backwards his recording of "Mary Had A Little Lamb" contained the message "AC current is Satan"
