August 11, 1935, At the age of 14, Les Paul takes the stylus (needle) from his record player and jams it into the wood directly under the strings of his acoustic guitar. The sound comes out of the phonograph and gives birth to the electric guitar. His mom, hearing this from downstairs said "Turn it down!"
