This day in music history.

August 4, 1966, In response to John Lennon's statement that the band was now more popular than Jesus Christ, a ban on the broadcast of Beatles records on U.S. radio stations goes into effect. The ban spells the end for the Beatles and they never sell another record. In response to the ban John said "Christ you know it aint easy" and Jesus Christ said "I've always liked the Stones more anyway".
