This day In music history.

March 12, 1948, Inspired by Frankie Yankovic's song "Just Because" selling a million copies the major record companies promote a Polka contest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to determine the best band. With each company represented, 8,000 spectators voted. When the votes were counted Frank and the boys won by an 8 to 1 margin. Frankie standing at the edge of the stage lifted his beer mug above his head and yelled "Polka will never die! "
