August 31, 1995, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum opens in Cleveland. The city is argued to be the birthplace of rock. It was here in the early 50s, at radio station WMMS, Alan Freed used the term rock and roll to discribe the music for the first time. (until then Rock and Roll was black slang for sexual intercourse)
It was in 1983 Ahmet Ertegun (Atlantic Records founder) decided there should be an organization to recognize Rock & Roll music and musicians. After getting together some other big hitters and deep pockets they decide to open a museum. Although the location of the museum was not decided yet they started inducting people in 1986.
After choosing Cleveland as the location, I.M. Pei was hired to design the building at a cost of 85 million dollars. Admission into the museum is $20.00, to this day over 5.000.000 people have visited.

Same place, same time.
Where we can get together
And ease up our mind.

Get down tonight. Get down tonight.

It is later revealed that the Presley family staged the grave-robbing to persuade Memphis officials to move him from the public cemetery to Graceland. At the time Graceland was not zoned for burials. More than 700,000 people at $25 a head visit the gravesite each year. Before burying him the second time, Colonel Parker had Elvis's brain removed and flown to Switzerland. War by Edwin Starr
Oh no-there's got to be a better way Say it again There's got to be a better way-yeah
What is it good for? War has caused unrest Among the younger generation
Induction then destruction Who wants to die? War-huh What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing Say it again War-huh What is it good for? Absolutely nothing Yeah
War-I despise' Cos it means destruction Of innocent lives War means tears
To thousands of mothers how When their sons go off to fight And lose their lives
I said War-huh It's an enemy of all mankind No point of war' Cos you're a man Give it to me one time-now
Give it to me one time-now War has shattered Many young men's dreams We've got no place for it today
They say we must fight to keep our freedom But Lord, there's just got to be a better way It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker War Friend only to the undertaker War - Good God, now
What is it good for?

August 25, 1958, "Fever" by Peggy Lee would reach #8 on the pop chart. Fever was originally written and performed by Little Willie John but Peggys version is one of the hottest, sexiest, horniest, coolest, most laid-back songs ever recorded.
Fever by Peggy Lee
Never know how much I love you, never know how much I care

When you put your arms around me, I get a fever that's so hard to bear
You give me fever - when you kiss me, fever when you hold me tight
Fever - in the the morning, fever all through the night.
Sun lights up the daytime, moon lights up the night
I light up when you call my name, and you know I'm gonna treat you right
You give me fever - when you kiss me, fever when you hold me tight
Fever - in the the morning, fever all through the night.
Everybody's got the fever, that is something you all know
Fever isn't such a new thing, fever started long ago.
Romeo loved Juliet, Juliet she felt the same
When he put his arms around her, he said "Julie baby you're my flame"
Thou givest fever, when we kisseth, fever with thy flaming youth
Fever - I'm afire, fever yea I burn forsooth.
Captain Smith and Pocahontas had a very mad affair
When her Daddy tried to kill him, she said "Daddy-O don't you dare"
He gives me fever - with his kisses, fever when he holds me tight
Fever - I'm his Missus, Oh daddy won't you treat him right.
Now you've listened to my story, here's the point I have made:
Chicks were born to give you fever, be it Fahrenheit or Centigrade
They give you fever - when you kiss them, fever if you live and learn
Fever - till you sizzle, what a lovely way to burn.
What a lovely way to burn.
What a lovely way to burn.

August 16, 1938, Blues musician Robert Johnson died. His wife had died in 1931 during child birth after which Robert disappeared from public for several years. When he reemerged he was a gifted blues guitarist, people say he sold his soul to the Devil for his new and improved guitar playing others say he probably practiced.
Robert hit the open road playing for anyone that would pay him. On August 13, 1938, while playing a house party in Three Forks, Mississippi someone laced Roberts whisky with strychnine. Most people think it was the jealous husband of a women Johnson had an affair with. According to Johnny Shine (Johnsons traveling companion), "I heard that it was something to do with the Black Arts. Before he died, Robert was crawling along the ground on all fours; barking and snapping like a mad beast. That's what the poison done to him". Johnson was buried in a small cemetery on the edge of town.
Love In Vain by Robert Johnson
And I followed her to the station
with a suitcase in my hand

And I followed her to the station
with a suitcase in my hand

Well, it's hard to tell, it's hard to tell
when all your love's in vain

All my love's in vain
When the train rolled up to the station
I looked her in the eye

When the train rolled up to the station
and I looked her in the eye

Well, I was lonesome, I felt so lonesome
and I could not help but cry

All my love's in vain
When the train, it left the station
with two lights on behind

When the train, it left the station
with two lights on behind

Well, the blue light was my blues
and the red light was my mind

All my love's in vain

August 15, 1969, The most famous concert in rock history opened. The Woodstock Music and Art Fair would last for three days on Max Yasgur's farm in Bethel, New York. Over 400,000 hippies took acid, smoked pot, and had sex, oh yeah there were some bands that played as well, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Sly and the Family Stone, the Who, the Grateful Dead, Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, Canned Heat, Crosby, Still Nash & Young, CCR, The Band, Arlo Guthrie, Johnny Winter, Ritchie Havens and the Jefferson Airplane to name a few.
The promoter expected at most 50.000 people but so many showed up for the concert (without tickets) the promoter (Michael Lang) was forced to call it a free festival and open the gates to all. The concert was called Woodstock because that is were it was supposed to be held but at the last minute the town of Woodstock cancelled the show for fear it would bring in a bad element. Not wanting to have to reprint everything they decided to not change the name.
During the concert there were three deaths, two births and many overdoses. A successful film of the concert and a soundtrack that would sell millions would recoup everyone's money and would help propel some of the bands into super stardom.
Some of DLAKs favorite Woodstock moments were Wavey Graveys stage announcements ("don't take the brown acid"), The fact that Jimi Hendrix played the last day after most of the crowd had left, The hippies got mad at a guy selling hamburgers because they thought he was charging to much (the fucking capitalist pig) and burned his hamburger stand down, Abbie Hoffman jumping on stage during the Who's set and Pete Townshend spearing him in the back with his guitar, knocking him back off the stage and our favorite Woodstock moment Just before the concert started while they were still building the stage Michael Lang brought a huge bag of cocaine to turn all the roadies on but when he set it down on the stage a tarp above it let loose with the rain water it was holding and washed the big bag of coke away as everyone one watched in horror.

After the band split up Brown was sued for stealing the tune of "Fire", thus losing most of his royalties.
Fire by The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown
I am the god of hell fire and I bring you: Fire,
I'll take you to burn. Fire, I'll take you to learn.
I'll see you burn! You fought hard and you saved and learned,
but all of it's going to burn. And your mind, your tiny mind,
you know you've really been so blind.
Now 's your time burn your mind. You're falling far too far behind.
Oh no, oh no, oh no, your gonna burn! Fire,
to destroy all you've done. Fire,
to end all you've become. I'll feel you burn!
You've been living like a little girl, in the middle of your little world.
And your mind, your tiny mind, you know you've really been so blind.
Now 's your time burn your mind, you're falling far too far behind

This day in virtual obscurity.

Zombies
Everything still living I eat, raw.
Everything dead already is of no consequence.
Mindless, I live to kill and eat.
Thoughtless, there is no future no past no love.
Just an instinctual need to consume and continue.
I feel no pity, you are not hated you are merely food.
Its not personal you see, just business.
I fear nothing and will stop only when my brain is disconnected from my spine.
You hear the back door open,
for a split second you convince yourself that it is someone you know,
someone you trust.
You hear me shuffle closer, first my legs then my body come into view.
I see you hiding in the corner, your mind races with fear
but you have left yourself no way out.
I slowly shuffle towards you, outside the rain and wind mock your screams.
I bend and as I come close for my meal you smell my cursed breath
and it is then that you recognize me,
I am you,
and you are what you eat.

Excerpt from "Can We Still Be Friends" by Todd Rundgren
Let’s admit we made a mistake
But can we still be friends
Heartbreak’s never easy to take
But can we still be friends
It’s a strange, sad affair
Sometimes seems like we just don’t care
Don’t waste time feeling hurt
We’ve been through hell together
Can we still get together sometime
You know life will still go on and on and on
We awoke from our dream
Things are not always what they seem
Memories linger on
It’s like a sweet, sad old song

Cause where he lives they dont use colored people
Living just enough, just enough for the city
His hair is long, his feet are hard and gritty
He spends his life walking the streets of new york city
Hes almost dead from breathing in air pollution
He tried to vote but to him theres no solution
Living just enough, just enough for the city
I hope you hear inside my voice of sorrow
And that it motivates you to make a better tomorrow

"Hi

I always talk like I’m wigged out on quaaludes
I wear a satin baseball jacket everywhere I go
My job is to help destroy What’s left of your imagination
By feeding you endless doses Of sugar-coated mindless garbage
So don’t create Be sedate Be a vegetable at home And thwack on that dial
If we have our way even you will believe This is the future of rock and roll
